The Best Times To Post On Social Media For Maximum Reach

Do you post regularly on social media but have little or no results? Is your content helpful and relevant to your followers?

Then you may be doing everything right, except for one thing: your timing is off.

When it comes to social media, it's best to share content when your audience is most active.

Also, it's important to coordinate your content with other marketing activities, current events, or business projects, such as a website refresh or redesign.

That's right—even influencers, who mostly work on social media channels, need a website to maximize their reach.

If you don't have one, you can use a website builder to bring your vision to life in minutes.

In order to enhance your branding, try to find a domain that matches your social media handle.

This creates a consistent online presence and makes it easier for your audience to find you. You can easily check available options by reviewing the TLD list.

With that in mind, here’s when you should post on the major social networks to get more likes, shares, and comments.

Why timing matters in social media marketing

Social media algorithms favor posts that drive engagement early on. The more people interact with your content shortly after publishing, the wider its reach.

Why timing matters in social media marketing

This snowball effect can help you get more eyes on your posts and generate brand exposure.

Let's assume you share a video on X at 1 AM so your audience can watch it early in the morning.

The problem is that most people are not online that late, and their feeds will be filled with early-morning posts by the time they go on social media.

Chances are, your video will appear at the bottom of their feeds, resulting in little or no visibility and engagement.

Some users might scroll and scroll but may still not see your post.

Factors that influence optimal posting times

Let's get something straight before we go any further: there's no universal best time to share content on social media.

However, you're more likely to drive engagement by posting at certain times on certain days, depending on:

  • Your industry or niche
  • Content type and format
  • Audience demographics
  • Seasonal fluctuations
  • Current events
  • Platform-specific algorithms

Let's say your marketing efforts revolve around LinkedIn or Xing.

Most professionals use these platforms Monday to Friday, especially during business hours, but not so much on weekends, in the evening, or over the holidays.

Plus, their online behavior may vary based on time zone, industry, and current events, such as the presidential elections.

A LinkedIn article published on a Saturday will likely drive less engagement than if you shared it on a Tuesday morning with no major industry events.

Optimal times to post on social media

Most people check their social media feeds on weekday mornings, but you still need to consider their time zones and preferred platforms, among other aspects.

Note that each platform has a different algorithm, and what works on one channel may not work on another.

Optimal times to post on social media

Without further ado, let's go over the best times to post on each major social network.

Instagram

According to a SocialPilot study of 50,000 Instagram accounts, most users are active on the platform at 7 AM EST, Monday to Sunday, as well as during specific times later in the day, including:

  • Monday: 11 a.m., 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 10 p.m., 1 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10 p.m., 4 p.m.
  • Thursday: 9 a.m., 2 p.m.
  • Friday: 11 a.m., 3 p.m.
  • Saturday: 12 p.m., 3 p.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m., 7 p.m.

Again, these figures vary by industry.

For example, health and fitness enthusiasts tend to be most active on Instagram between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.-10 p.m. during the week, as well as from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

By comparison, social media users interested in IT products are most active on the platform from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during weekdays and 1 p.m.-3 p.m. / 8 p.m.-9 p.m. on weekends.

Facebook

In 2024, work management software provider CoSchedule conducted a study on the optimal times to share content on Facebook.

Based on their research, it's best to publish your posts between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The highest engagement levels are registered at 9 a.m. on weekdays.

The content shared over the weekend doesn't perform that well, but you might get results if you post early in the morning or before noon.

Most people go out, travel, or spend time with their family and friends on weekends, leaving little time for social media.

LinkedIn

Current research indicates that LinkedIn users are most active at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Some also check their feeds between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. and 4 p.m.-10 p.m. on Saturdays and early on Sundays.

Generally, business professionals catch up on emails and plan their week on Mondays, so they use social media to a lesser extent.

By Friday, their attention shifts to wrapping up tasks or preparing for the weekend, reducing engagement.

X (Twitter)

After analyzing one million tweets, Buffer found that the content shared at 11 a.m. on Mondays or Fridays generates the most buzz.

You could also publish on the platform around 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays when your followers are getting ready to leave work.

As you would expect, engagement levels are lowest on weekends when most people take a break from technology.

If you still have something to share, do it between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Saturdays or at 7 p.m. on Sundays.

YouTube

Buffer suggests sharing your videos on YouTube at 4 p.m. on Wednesdays for maximum reach.

The content published at 4 p.m. on Mondays or Thursdays may perform well, too.

The same goes for YouTube Shorts, which perform best if shared around 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Mondays.

At the opposite end are the videos posted between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., which drive the least engagement.

However, it’s okay to publish content during these intervals if you're targeting consumers in a different time zone.

For more accurate estimates, check your YouTube Studio dashboard after publishing new videos. Track their performance over several weeks until you find a pattern.

Adjust your posting schedule based on real-time trends

Choosing the optimal times to post on social media isn't an exact science, and a rigid publishing schedule can result in missed opportunities.

The best thing you can do is monitor current events, such as industry news, major holidays, or viral trends, and adjust your timing for maximum impact.

Use this guide as a starting point and adapt your strategy as needed.

Leverage tools like Brand24, Buffer, or Sprout Social to analyze engagement metrics and determine the best posting time for each platform.

It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on Google Trends, X trends, and online communities related to your industry.

See what your target audience wants to know more about, the types of content they interact with, and when they are most active on the major social networks.
